He was predeceased by : his parents, James Murtaugh and Elsie Murtaugh; and his siblings, Helen, Robert (Jeanette), John Barry (Aileen) and Gary (Muriel).

He is survived by : his wife Theresia; his children, Patrick Jr. (Dorothy) and Joanna (Jean Paul); his grandchildren, Destiny, Dawson and Dakota; and his sister Marlene (Wilfred). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
