He was predeceased by: his parents, Morris Nicholson and Margaret "Peggy" Nicholson; and his sibling Terry Nicholson (Veronica). He is survived by: his wife Sharon Corcoran; his children, Eve Nicholson and Ryan Nicholson; his grandchildren, Jessie, Jaydah (Nick) and Kodiak; his siblings, Susan Hemsworth (Greg), Michael Nicholson (Donna) and Cheryl Carlucci (Ron); his parent-in-law Lynn Corcoran (late Roberta); and his siblings-in-law, Paul Corcoran (Melissa), Susan Corcoran (David) and Jim Corcoran (Jane).

Memorial donations in Billy's honour can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (CPFF) or the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society.
