Elinor Jones Obituary
Born February 18, 1933, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2021, just shy of her 88th birthday. Mom was born in Toronto, Ontario to Leslie and Violet, and had an older brother George, all of whom she was predeceased by. She worked at a variety of places throughout her life, to and including AVRO Canada, where she met her husband Leslie Jones, who had recently emigrated from England. They were married July 30, 1954 and enjoyed 55 years together with lots of challenges and blessings. They travelled to many places together and were almost inseparable until his death in 2009. Mom’s last job was working as a school crossing guard for 20 years, only retiring at the age of 84. She was quite the homebody and enjoyed reading and watching her favourite TV shows, as well as spending quality time with family and a few close friends, Eleene, Ann, Maggie and Allie, who kept in touch with me, throughout Mom’s journey with Alzheimers. Elinor had 3 children Shelley, Carl (2013), and Lesley. She also had 3 grandchildren Lenor (41), Allan (24) and Spencer (20), whom she loved very much. Elinor also had a great grandson from Lenor, Mason (20). Elinor is survived by a few cousins in both Canada and Britain, where her mother was born.
The family would also like to acknowledge and express our gratitude toward all medical personnel involved in Mom’s care, those being Alzheimer Society of Niagara, St Catharines General Hospital, Henley House, LHIN and all supporting agencies. Mom was an extremely shy person and sometimes it took her a little bit to warm up to people, however, once she became your friend, you were friends for life!
The night before receiving the call that Mom’s health was declining, I had a dream, whereas Dad was there as well as Mom, both in their healthier states. I asked my mom if she could see my dad, and she said she could not. I then walked Mom over to where Dad was and placed her arm around his waist, suddenly she exclaimed “I can feel him”. Seconds later, she exclaimed “I can see him”. They then clasped hands, lovingly smiled at me, then turned and walked away together peacefully into the sunset of eternal love and rest, together forever!
