He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon G. Cookson and Joyce Irene Cookson; his grandparents, Clayton Watson, Edna Bruce, Eleazor Cookson and Laura Aldis; his aunts and uncles, Eleanor Watson, Joyce Louise Cookson, Elizabeth Brown, Mary Lou Lessard, Roy McCurdy, Donald Cookson, Grant Cookson and Wayne Lessard; and his nephew Benjamin Cookson.

He is survived by: his siblings, Tom (Kathy Cookson), Vicki (Terry Barber), Barry (Sherry Cookson) and Gordon (Lesley Cookson); and his siblings' children, Scott (Allisha), Melissa (Harry), T. J. (Leigh), Amanda, Matt, Gordie (Nicole), Caroline (Shawn), John and Jaden (Marissa).
