He was predeceased by: his wife Hazel; his parents, Harry Canton and Maude Canton; his brothers, Ron Canton and Joe Canton; and his brothers-in-law, David and Robert Knight.

He is survived by: his children, Terrence Freer (Silvia), James Canton (Heather), Nancy DeVries (Carl) and Tom Canton; his grandchildren, Tanya, Pauline, Erica, Laura, Ashley, Christopher, Jarod, Hannah and Noah; his great grandchildren, Wade, Katelyn, Brandon, Chloe, Nolan, Devon, Madison, Graci, Rease and Johnathan; his great great grandchildren, Aubrey and Briar; and his siblings-in-law, Jack and Fay Canton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
