He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Mergaert and Lynn Mergaert. He is survived by: his children, Josh Mergaert (Eleanor) and Jenny-Lynn Mergaert; his grandchildren, James Mergaert and Ava Mergaert; and his brothers, Donald Mergaert (Stephanie), Charles Mergaert (Karen), Bob Mergaert (Laura) and Arthur Mergaert. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
