He was predeceased by: his daughter Cindy Rancourt (late Al); his grandson Collin Newman; his parents, Thomas Major and Nellie Major; and his siblings, Francis Corbett (late Lorne), Rhoda Bazzo, Alex Major (late Ellen) and Frank Major.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, David Major (Hilda), Ann-Marie Roberts (John), John Major (Rose), Cathy James (Roy), Michael Major, Stacey Newman (Joe) and Shawna Major; and his grandchildren, Michael Major (Shannon), Christine (Christian), Jo-Marie Collier (Jeff), John Roberts (Trudy), Derek Roberts, Kelly Moskal (Harry), Phyllis Pulente, Kevin Major (Ashley), Marty Major (Julie), Amanda Major (Mike), Jonathan Major, Jamie Major, Nathan James (Bailey), Marc Major, Daniel Newman, Sean Newman and Samantha Newman.
