He was predeceased by: his parents, Brigit Dalton and James Benedict Dalton; and his brother James Dalton. He is survived by: his children, David Andrew Dalton, Daniel James Evan Dalton (Mariah Patterson) and Teresa Anne Dalton (Jacki Gunton); his grandchildren, Aubrey Elizabeth Dalton, Scarlett Rose Dalton and Aurora James Dalton; and his former wife Judith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Toronto Humane Society, a cause close to his heart.
