It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Niganiwina of Sheshegwaning, Ontario, who passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 61, leaving to mourn family and friends. As John departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though John may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy John leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Wassegijig and Isaac Niganiwina; and his sister Cecile. He is survived by: his siblings, Michael Wassegijig of M'Chigeeng, Darlene Niganiwina (Keith Madill) of Hamilton, Karen Servant (Don) of Niagara Falls and Calvin Wassegijig (Lisa) of Hamilton; and his niece Stephanie. He is also survived by many other cousins and many, many friends.
A wake was held on Thursday, June 12th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Saswaahns Spiritual Centre (44 Tikmeg Rd, M'Chigeeng, ON P0P1G0). Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Sheshegwaning Community Complex (Sheshegwaning Rd, Manitoulin District, ON P0P). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
