He was predeceased by: his parent Walter Schaeffer; his brothers, Gerald (Marie) and Earl (Anita); and his siblings-in-law, Edna Miller (Herb), Doris Wagner (Harvey), Evelyn Dettman and Bonnie Dettman.

He is survived by: his parent Caroline Schaeffer; his spouse Doreen; his children, Paul (Laurie) and Scott (Debbie); his grandchildren, Julia Matthews (Trevor), Erin Jacobs (Paul), Caroline Jager (Jonathon) and Carrie Stewart (Brad Suchucki); his great grandchildren, William, Clare, Lillianna, Edward, Kaitlyn, Grace and Max; and his brothers-in-law, Ken Dettman and Leroy Dettman.
