Meredith Helen Meyers Obituary

Meredith Helen Meyers of St. Catharines Ontario, passed away October 21, 2024 at the age of 52 years. Meredith was born in Sydney, Australia to Nelson and Louise Meyers on December 18, 1971. In 1974 she moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta Canada. As a child she developed a passion for dance and had the opportunity to perform with the Alberta Ballet in pieces such as the Nutcracker at the Jubilee Auditorium. In 1988 she danced in the open ceremonies at the Calgary Olympics. When she graduated from Western Canada High School, Meredith continued her studies at Ryerson University in Toronto. In her spare time she loved to teach dance to young children. Her interest in dance, sports and physiology lead her to train as a certified massage therapist specializing in sports injuries. Meredith also loved family, people, children and animals. She had a particular soft spot for German Shepherd dogs and was interested in helping to train them as support companions. She had a fountain of knowledge about their care and was always full of stories about her dog's latest antics. Meredith's compassion and care for people was borne out in her volunteer work at places such as local food banks. She was always willing help those in need and freely gave of her time and energy. Despite significant setbacks incurred from several illnesses and a car accident resulting in a brain injury, Meredith continued to strive for her own betterment and that of those around her. Meredith loved learning so after the COVID pandemic she decided to pursue her certification as a Personal Support Worker while continuing to work at NASCO Staffing Solutions, Production Services Industry, and the Meridian Centre. She loved connecting with people at her jobs and working at events behind the scenes as a stage hand, helping with costumes and equipment. She was a big advocate for cleanliness and workplace safety and loved being able to put her medical knowledge to use when needed. Meredith had a big heart, a great sense of humour and a positive attitude toward life. Meredith is survived by her father Nelson of Calgary, her sister Gwyneth (Richard) of Calgary, her brothers Warren (Sandrine) and Nathan of Vancouver, nieces Hanna of Vancouver, Carrie (Pat) and Rebecca (Frank) both of Calgary. She is also survived by her great nephews and nieces Ashwin, Mettaya, Ila-Rose, Jono and Maddie. She was predeceased by her mother Louise and brother Conrad. A Celebration of Life will be held at Butler Funeral Home, 424 Niagara Street, St. Catharines, on Friday November 1, 2024 from 2-4 PM. At 3:00 PM there will be an informal service where memories will be shared. Cremation has taken place and following the Celebration of Life, Meredith will be travelling home to Calgary where a Funeral Service will be held (date to be determined) and she will be laid to rest alongside her family.
