It is with sadness that the passing of Fred Knechtel (Stratford, Ontario) is shared. Fred, born on August 8, 1936, passed away on August 27, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Fred will be remembered for the time spent with loved ones and the moments that brought joy to those around him. Friends and family will honour Fred by reflecting on shared memories and the positive influence he had in their lives. Though Fred is no longer present, the bonds he created and the experiences shared will endure. Fred’s memory will continue to be a source of comfort for all who knew him.
He was predeceased by: his siblings, Rosina Mary Howard, Robert John Knechtel and William James Knechtel. He is survived by: his wife Audrey (Hopf); and his children, Janet Amicucci (Simon), Joan Stephen (Kevin) and Douglas (Michelle). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the W. G. Young Funeral Home (430 Huron St, Stratford, ON N5A5T7). A reception was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, and as expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Stratford General Hospital Foundation, West Perth Village Nursing Home or a charity of your choice through the funeral home.
