He was predeceased by: his parents, Shirley Thornton (Smith) and Wayne Thornton (Joanne) of Stratford; his sister Connie Marshall (John); and his grandparents, Kenneth Thornton, Kay, Alvin Hinz, Dorothy and Alfred Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Holly Cronin (Brad Bowman) and Scott Thornton (Shayln Mitchell); his grandchild Alanna O'Neil; his sister Brenda Steele (Bob); his nieces, Heather and Cassie; and his nephew Bobby.
