Kevin Wayne Ruston Obituary

Kevin Wayne Ruston, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the Stratford Rotary Hospice, embraced by his children's love, holding their hands, while comforted by the music of Fleetwood Mac playing gently in the background.

Kevin leaves behind his daughter Heidi Churchill (Jay) and son Eric Ruston (Mandi). He is "Papa" to six cherished grandchildren: Steffen (Kinsie), Skylar, Aidan, Connor, Alyssa, and Avrya. He was also blessed with two great grandsons, Wilder and Sebastian, who started calling him "Old Papa", a name that he adored.

Family was at the centre of Kevin's life. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each held a special place in his heart. He was their most dedicated supporter never missing a hockey game, gymnastics meet, dance recital, drama performance, graduation or birthday celebration. He had a special relationship with each of his grandkids, and they loved him fiercely.

He is predeceased by his mother Donna Zehr, his sister Karen Ruston, and his former spouse Brenda Ferguson, the loving mother of his children.

Kevin will be fondly remembered by his sisters Cindy Ruston and Sherry Jesso (Kevin), as well as his nieces and nephews: Adam (Deena), Sarah (Sean), Sasha (Ryan), Scott (Mel), and Cody (Jay). He will also be lovingly remembered by cherished family members Gary Boyd and Bruce King, countless cousins, his uncles, his great nieces and nephews, and friends who knew and loved him as "Kev," "Happy Kev," "Chopper," or "Rusty.".

Kevin dedicated 32 years to Uniroyal where he made many of his lifelong friends. He enjoyed travelling, cheering on his favourite sports teams and playing card games, almost always with an ice cap in hand. He saved every holiday card and memento that his children and grandkids gifted him and had a special talent for always being able to find the best deal. Kevin was kind and funny, and his infectious laughter brought happiness to all who were lucky enough to know him.

Kevin's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the PSWs, staff, and volunteers of Stratford Hospital, Staff Relief and Stratford Rotary Hospice whose compassionate care and guidance lifted and embraced them throughout his final days.

Honouring Kevin's wishes, cremation has taken place. In the spring, we will gather for a celebration of his life—a time to remember him and to share love and stories among family and friends.
