He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilfred Schlegel and Emma Schlegel; his brother Wayne Schlegel; and his siblings-in-law, Carl Gingerich, Frank Turpin, Lawrence Lockhart, Barbara Schlegel and Marilyn Schlegel.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Schlegel; his children, Kimberly Schlegel, Jeffrey Schlegel (Krista) and Derek Schlegel; his grandchildren, Landon Schlegel, Makenna Schlegel and Paige St. Pierre; his siblings, Marilyn Gingerich, Ron Schlegel and Janet Mueller (Art); and his in-laws, Linda Lockhart, Lorraine Turpin (Roger), Ron Lockhart (Terri) and Wes Lockhart (Cheryl). He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
