He was predeceased by: his child Doug Smaill; his parents, Hugh Smaill and Mary Smaill; his brother Allan Smaill; and his sister-in-law Jean Poole.
He is survived by: his husband Soul; his children, Jim Smaill (Jan), Barb Brown (Doug) and Susan Gowers (Roy); his siblings-in-law, David Rutherford (Rosemary), Shirley Gregory and Kathleen Smaill; and also Frances. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
