He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Blake Matthews and Eva Matthews of Hanmer; his wife Suzanne; his children, Chris Matthews (Lisa) of Cole Harbour, NS and Brigitte Hollohan (Ryan) of Sudbury, ON.; his siblings, Ron, Tamara (Peter), Vicki (Don), Lynda (Jim) and Lisa; his parents-in-law, Charles and Therese Robidoux of Sturgeon Falls; and his brothers-in-law, Jim (Yollande), Roger (Line) and Denis (Julie) of Sudbury. He was also cherished by his nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Memory of Dave be can made to either to the Sudbury Girls District Hockey Association (cheques only) or the Metro East Inferno Hockey in Dartmouth (cheques only).
