“I knew Ian well from 1964 to 1968 when we were colleagues and friends in the Metallurgy Dept at Imperial College, London, England. He was a good, kind friend, always helpful. People who knew him later may not know that as well as being a very able theoretical physicist he was at weekends a Soccer Referee and a keen supporter of Southampton Football Club. Last week I felt a need to seek him out and discovered through Google that he had passed away. A coincidence or more? God Bless him. Clive P.”
