He was predeceased by: his parents, Laurier Legault and Sarah Legault; and his siblings, Thérèse Armitage, Norma Chartrand, Rhéal, Claude and Gilbert.

He is survived by: his wife Frances Legault; his daughters, Patricia Legault (Robert), Karen Hnatuk (Dan), Cathy Legault (Stéphane) and Nancy Legault (James); his grandchildren, Michael (Jenny), Darin (Tanya), Brandon (Renee), Shannah (Chris), Justin (Brooklynn), Kristie, Nyckolas (Ally), Matthieu, Britney (Matt), PJ, Jacob, Amélie and Liam; and his sister Solange Dorion (Claude). He is also survived by his 14 great-grandchildren, his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
