He was predeceased by: his parents, Orphila Simard and Marie Simard; and his daughter Elaine Laakso (Allan). He is survived by: his children, Gérald (Sandra), Valérie Vojnovic (Djuro), Daniel (Vicky), Janet Halladay (Scot), François and René (Louisiane); his grandchildren, Monique, Matthew, Danielle, Eric, Adam, Emily, Natalie, Maja, Madeleine, Melanie, Curtis, Lindsey, Nathan, Markel, Tatiana, Olivia and Adèle; and his siblings, Rollande Robillard (late Maurice), Yollande Belisle (late Maurice), Denise Girard (late Moïse), Jean-Jacques (Monique), Muriel Simard-Nemeth (Louis), Odette Grenier (Don), Diane Obach (late Tom), Pierrette Martin, Henri-Paul (Louise), Marc (Collette), Monique Fredette, Lise Renaud (Leo) and Pierre (Denise). He is also survived by his 14 great grandchildren.
