He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Riitta Nurmikivi; his daughter Barbara Major (Wayne); his granddaughter Elisa McNeil (Steven); his great grandchildren, Clarke of Sudbury and Laura McNeil of Sudbury; his stepsons, Mikko Nurmikivi (Paula) and Marko Nurmikivi (Caroline); his grandsons, Anders Nurmikivi (Liisa) of Chelmsford, Evan Nurmikivi (Cassidy) of Chapleau, Matti and Tiia Nurmikivi of Lively; his great grandchildren, Freja and Tahvo; his sister Asta Åström; his nephews, Jarkko (Outi) and Petteri; his half-siblings, Taimi Laakso and Teuvo Eilomaa; his siblings' children, Maija-Liisa Porkka, Marja-Leena Myllymäki, Pirjo Tienhaara (Eero) and Eero Laalo; his sister Sirkka; his half-brother Tauno; his parents, Saima Eilomaa and Frances Eilomaa; and his former wife Laura Akkanen.
Because of the pandemic, no funeral service will be held and a Celebration of life will be scheduled for at a later date, both in Sudbury and Finland.
Memorial donations may be made to the Finnish Canadian Historical Society, the Finlandia Sisu Foundation or charity of your personal choice.
