Catherine Matchett Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cathy Matchett—a devoted wife, cherished sister, and dear friend whose gentle heart and adventurous spirit enriched all who knew her.

Born on October 8, 1961, in Castrop‑Rauxel, Germany, Cathy came to Canada as an infant when she was lovingly adopted by William Henry and Mary Anne Matchett. From the very beginning, her life was defined by the warmth and care of a family who nurtured her innate kindness and curiosity.

A proud graduate of Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario, Cathy embarked on a distinguished career with CSC, where her integrity, dedication, and quick wit won her the admiration of colleagues far and wide. After retiring in 2014, she set out to explore the world with renewed passion.

Cathy's greatest joy was found on the hiking trails—feet on forest paths, heart open to every sunrise and summit. Early on, she adventured with her spirited Jack Russell, Candy; and in later years, she and her husband, Gary Rhydwen, were seldom without their faithful companion, Stormie. Together, they discovered hidden waterfalls, stood in awe atop mountain ridges, and savored the simple pleasure of a campfire under starlit skies.

She leaves behind her husband, Gary Rhydwen, whose love and partnership were Cathy's steadfast anchor; her brother, John Matchett, who shared in both her laughter and her dreams; and countless friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. Though she has left us, the echoes of her laughter will forever ring in our hearts.
