Sheila Anthony Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sheila Anthony, a gifted and dedicated teacher, worship leader, mother, and nana. Sheila passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived, deeply loved, and missed, by her husband of 42 years Robert Tapscott, her children Evan (Amanda), Morgan (Brandon) as well as her brother David and her grandchildren Stella, Emily, Campbell, Heather, and Anthony. She is predeceased by her parents Mervyn and Anne Anthony and will be dearly missed by her extended family and friends.
Shelia will be remembered for leading and educating with strength, quick wit, and a tender heart that cared deeply for her grateful students, members of the community, her congregations, and her children and grandchildren.
As a teacher, she spent much of her career at Ernestown S.S. where she was a favorite of students. She was a force to be reckoned with. Sheila had a unique ability to stoke curiosity in even reluctant students with a clever quip, a sidelong glance, or an impassioned expression of love for the subject.
Beyond the classroom, she was a beloved and active member of her community. She has previously led the Girl Guides, played an active role in the S&A Club, and regularly dedicated her time as a volunteer.
She will also be deeply missed by her friends at McGowan Lake Campground where she and Rob spent their summers.
In addition to her work as an educator, and contributions to the community, she served as a Lay Worship Leader of the United Church. She began at St. Paul's United Church, and most recently at Trinity United Church, where she inspired her congregation with her wisdom, deep faith, and integrity.
But above all else, she adored her family. Fiercely protective and endlessly proud. She poured her heart into her family, and they were her greatest joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the form of a cheque to the Trinity United Church Food Hamper Fund - a program that Sheila was particularly passionate about as it directly helped members of the community. Arrangements have been made at Trousdale Funeral Home in Sydenham with visitation on Friday, March 14th from 5:00-8:00pm and Funeral Service on Saturday, March 15th at 11:00am.
