E Bruce Beatty Obituary
Errol “Bruce” Beatty
July 20, 1940 – January 28, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that the Beatty family announce the passing of our husband, dad, papa and brother. Bruce passed away on January 28, 2024 in Thunder Bay, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. We lovingly remember you, even when you couldn’t remember us.
Bruce was born in Fort William, ON in 1940. He attended PACI, McDonald College and then Queen’s, to complete his teaching degree. Both he and JoAnne obtained teaching positions in Lindsay Ontario, where he built a life as a memorable teacher, passionate football, track and ski coach, volunteer for many local groups and a great friend to many. He loved spending time playing football, curling, skiing, fishing, camping and was the loudest cheerleader at his children’s sports.
Bruce and JoAnne made the most of retirement, spending time in Toronto, enjoying plays, symphonies, and Raptors games; trekking to Syracuse to cheer for NCAA sports and dinner parties with friends. They enjoyed travelling and sightseeing, and crossed numerous counties off their list. But his favourite place to be was at Silver Islet, where he loved building sheds, adding on to their cottage and walking the Avenue, visiting friends with his faithful dog Holly.
Left to mourn and embrace memories are his wife of 57 years, JoAnne, his “beauty”; children, Lara, Jason, Robyn and Kim; grandkids, Braylee, Aiden, Lauryn, Peyton, Nathan, Reide and Ryerson; brothers, Michael and Tom; and sister, Colleen. Predeceased by his parents, Mibs and Lorne; his brother, Ken; sister, Kathleen; and many friends, who have all welcomed him with open arms.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor, Thunder Bay for their wonderful, passionate care during his short time there.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration at Silver Islet, in the summer 2024.
If so desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Canadian Cancer Association in Bruce’s memory.
