Ignit Stetsko Obituary

Ignit (Hnoit) Stetsko passed away peacefully March 2, 2024.

He was born May 7, 1929 in Elk Point, Alberta to Harry and Michalena Stetsko, the eldest of 6 boys. Ignit and Marie were married in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (1956), and they moved with their growing family to Thunder Bay in 1961. It has been a difficult 3 months for Ignit since the loss of his sweetheart Marie.

He was loved and will be remembered by his 5 children, Peter (Lauren McKinnon), Christine (Roman Kowalczyszyn), Paul (Dawn Kirkconnell), Cynthia Garland, and Francis (Catherine Tilk); his 10 grandchildren Christian (Katie), Courtney (Nate), Andrew, Mark (Amanda), Keith (Meghan), Kevin, Andrea, Dalton (Haley), Logan (Sara), and Grace; his six great grandchildren, Teddy, Josephine, Sebastian, Lincoln, Jack, and Juliet.

Ignit was awarded his Chartered Accountant designation in 1965. He successfully built his accounting and insolvency practice and became a lifetime member of both the Chartered Professional Accountants Association of Ontario and the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals. For many years he was involved in the Ukrainian Business Community in Thunder Bay as well as the Knights of Columbus and other organizations. He had a very strong work ethic that was delivered with passion and integrity.

Ignit cared deeply about his family, always encouraging education and excellence. Ignit's descendants continue to be motivated by his strong devotion to family and belief that hard work and determination is rewarded. He loved being outdoors caring for and riding his horses and tending his vegetable garden. In later years, he and his wife Marie were able to explore many parts of the world.

Funeral service will be held on Friday March 8, at 10 am, at St. Andrew's R.C. Church. Family will greet friends from 9:15 am until service time. Interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2:00pm on Friday.
