He was predeceased by: his parents, Toivo Alanen and Terttu Alanen; his son Mark; his sister Marja; and his in-laws, George and Lillian McGuire.

He is survived by: his wife Maureen; his son Michael; his granddaughters, Taylor and Mikayla; and his brother-in-law Duce.

A celebration of life was held on Thursday, December 4th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Oliver Road Community Centre (563 Oliver Rd, Thunder Bay, ON P7B2H2).
