Maureen Walker Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maureen Walker (Thunder Bay, Ontario), at age 73, who passed away on August 17, 2019, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Maureen Walker to pay them a last tribute. You may also light a candle in honor of Maureen Walker.

Maureen Walker, died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay, ON, after complications from a stroke.

Beloved daughter of (the late) Betty and (the late) Robert Walker of Thunder Bay. On Maureen's paternal side, cherished niece of (the late) Herb Walker, and cherished cousin and wonderful friend to Monique. On Maureen's Nahornoff maternal side, beloved (and predeceased) by aunts and uncles, especially, Jeanne, Pauline, and Harry; and lovingly remembered by cousins, especially, Gail, David, and Bruce. Maureen was a wonderful friend to many, and a doting companion to her cherished pets, Lola, Chuckie, and Kitty-boy.

Maureen was a natural born teacher, a caring and gifted communicator, who loved her work as nurse and educator. During her time in Chicago, Maureen co-founded, with her (late) former husband, a blues music record label, and managed his musical career. Maureen was an original. We shall miss her profoundly, and remain inspired by her kind-heartedness and resilience; by her remarkable, adventurous spirit and wonderful story-telling; and by her love of nature and music.

Final ceremony of remembrance for Maureen took place in the summer of 2020, in Thunder Bay, close the majestic trees, flowers, birds, and butterflies that she so loved. In addition, condolences may be sent to: [email protected]

“I never met Maureen but am friend and neighbour of her sweet cousin, Monique. Being a Thunder Bay girl and devoted animal lover too, I felt connected to her. Monique and I would enjoy trying to find common Names of friends or acquaintances; I knew I'd have loved her because of her love of music, her resilience and her compassion. Rest in Peace Beautiful Soul 🙏”

“Maureen was my cousin. I just learned of her death today. Like many families, we lost touch, but Maureen was never forgotten. My late mother doted on her niece, Maureen, as Maureen's mother, Betty had doted on her little sister (my mother) and us kids. Lots of old photos and fond memories.”

Michel Morton wrote a sympathy message

“Monique: Have known Maureen forever. Was missing her today and feeling sad that she was gone. We've been through our share of adventures. Also, so glad to find her obit. We both went through nursing at McKellar General Hospital School of Nursing and we, the Alumni, keep the obits of our fallen to remember them. We couldn't find Maureen's so I have passed this on. I'm on Facebook should you want a contact here. Maureen was such a talented, bright soul Michel Morton”
