He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Whatley and Emily Whatley; his siblings, Gordon (Audrey), Ivy Nielsen (Axel), Dick (Kay), Joe (Elaine), Emmy Drew (Walter), Eddy (Genny) and Kay Masters (Jack); his in-laws, George and Bessie Hicketts; his brother-in-law Reg Essa; his son-in-law John Grasley; and his nephews, David, Brian Whatley, John Drew and Jeff Hicketts.
He is survived by: his wife Betty; his daughters, Janice Whatley (Johnny), Heather Grasley and Susan Whatley-Halverson (Kevin); his grandchildren, Chris Vanderwees (Jeta), Angie Vanderwees (Adam), Joshua Grasley (Mariah), Jamie Grasley, Emily Halverson (Cliff), Eric and Evan Halverson; his siblings-in-law, Joyce Essa and Ed Hicketts (Cindy); and his caregivers, Amanda, Amy, Val, Brett and Holly. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, May 4th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Harbourview Funeral Centre (499 Cumberland St N, Thunder Bay, ON P7A4R9). A funeral service was held on Monday, May 4th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A reception was held on Monday, May 4th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the same location.
