He was predeceased by: his parents, Takayoshi "Tommy" Kawahara and Yoshiko Kawahara; and his brothers, George, Gene and Richard.
He is survived by: his spouse Dorlyn Gilman; and his brother Brian (Myrtle). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
