He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Sergeant and Minnie Sergeant (Richardson); his wife Fay (Cupples); his daughter Laurie; his grandson Christopher DeGroote; his sisters, Winnifred Watts, Margaret Kennedy (Madge) and May Sergeant; and his uncle Sam Sergeant (Hester).
He is survived by: his children, Judy DeGroote (George Utting), John Sergeant (Rhonda), Carolyn (Randy Boughner) and Richard Sergeant; and his grandchildren, Diana Ashford, Terri DeGroote (Mike), Brian DeGroote, Lisa Boughner (Jenny), Tanya Basom (Tao), Jennifer Boughner, Tyler Sergeant (Carly), Kelly DeGroote (Nick), Adam Mayo (Miranda) and Kyle Mayo (Morgan). He is also survived by twenty great-grandchildren.
