He was predeceased by: his parents, John and Lempi; his son Ken; his siblings, Otto (Irma), Oliver (Doris), Lea (Wilfred) and Archie (Norma); and his brother-in-law John Kivioja.

He is survived by: his wife Viola; his sons, Michael (Lyne Rivet) and David (Jennifer Drover); his grandchildren, Nicolas (Holly Thompson), Stefanie (Tristan Church), Russel, Aiden and Liam; his sisters-in-law, Kauno Kivioja (Susan) and Diana Kivioja; and his nieces and nephews, Cathy Woldanski (Jim), Glen Kivioja, Kelly Kivioja (Rob Armstrong), Kara Kivioja, Allan Welin (Tammy) and Larry Welin.
