We announce the death of Giannoula Joanne Lyras (Toronto, Ontario), who passed away on September 24, 2026, at the age of 73. Giannoula will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Giannoula will be remembered for the impact she had on the lives of those around her. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Giannoula will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture her life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Giannoula’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was loved and cherished by many people including: husband: Eythemios Lyras; children: John (Georgina), Mary (Ezio), and Costa; granddaughter: Sofia; brother: George (Effie); nephews: Kosta (Jessica) and Ricky; sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law: Eleftherios (Anna), Eleni (the late Nick), and Antonios (Angela); nieces/nephews: John (Lisa), Maria (Elias), Stacey (Jim), Mary, Maria (James), and John; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family in Canada and Greece.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ward Funeral Home (2035 Weston Rd, Toronto, ON M9N1X7). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Cathedral (136 Sorauren Ave, Toronto, ON M6R2E3). A burial will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Vendredi York Cemetery (160 Beecroft Rd, North York, ON M2N1W7).
