He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Sheila Jane Matheson; his children, Jane Anne and John Roderick (Colleen); his grandchildren, Matheson (Cecilia Hui) and Kevin (Kailee Kilburn); and his parents, Gladys Harmer and Gilbert Murray.
In 2020 Jack survived COVID-19.
