He was predeceased by: his wife Ljuba (Amalia); his parents, Valentin and Marijana; and his siblings, Francka, Valentin, Ana, Fransež and Marian.

He is survived by: his siblings, Pavla and Marija; his daughter Maryanne; his children-in-law, Sean and Maria; his grandchildren, Natasha (Joshua), Abigayle, Emily and Michael; and his great grandchild Grayson. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, in recognition of John's pride in his Slovenian community and roots.
