He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Locherer and Maureen Locherer; and his brother Joshua. He is survived by: his spouse Dorota "Ola"; his daughters, Lydia (Mario) and Anna; his siblings, Tennyson Park, Tara Martin (Andrew) and Gabrielle Locherer; his siblings' children, Sean, Ava, Fiona and Echo; and his stepfather Bob Douglas.

“I was shocked and saddened when I learned of J.P.s passing. I had the pleasure of teaching JP at Humber College in the Film and Television Production Program. He along with the members of his 3rd year production crew showed remarkable professionalism as students. He has since made a significant contribution over the years. Unknown to JP I followed his career through the credits listed in the Canadian Cinematographer Magazine. JP was taken from us far too soon. Robert Bocking csc .”
