She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Allan Lakanen and Bernice Lakanen; her siblings, Patrick Lakanen, Anne Zaborski, Margaret (Steve Doswell), Caroline (Raj Srivastava) and Michael Lakanen; and her siblings' children, Kathryn, Jenny and Michael.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary Lou's name to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Michael's Hospital (Toronto) or the World Wildlife Federation (WWF).
