Melissa Elizabeth Trought Obituary
Melissa Trought, age 48, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Michael Garron Hospital, with her beloved husband, Jeremy Daly, by her side.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Bill and Peggy Trought, and Carol Stanbury. Loving sister of Clayton (Blair), Kathleen (Jonathan), and Matthew, and sister-in-law to Adam (Andrea). She was an incredible aunt to Nicholas, Morgan, and Mason. She will be deeply missed by her grandmother, Noreen Trought. She is predeceased by her grandparents, Ross Trought, and Robert and Miriam Stanbury.
Born on February 27, 1977, in Miami, Florida, Melissa’s strength and resilience were evident from the beginning—having been born prematurely and spending her first months in the NICU. She was raised in Toronto and later in Aurora, and she spent her summers at Sparrow Lake surrounded by her extended family. Melissa formed lifelong friendships from an early age, and her relationships with others was what she treasured the most.
She studied Economics at the University of Victoria and, after graduating, returned to Toronto to begin her career in advertising at Ogilvy—where she also met the love of her life, Jeremy. Fulfilling a childhood dream, Melissa, Jeremy, and their stray cat “Kat” moved to New York City, where she spent over a decade excelling in her career, earning her yoga teaching certification, and warmly welcoming countless visitors. They later relocated to San Francisco for five years, a city that perfectly matched her cozy aesthetic—always in a blanket scarf and toque.
Melissa had a wide range of passions: she loved fashion, yoga, patio brunches, and long walks. But above all, she treasured her family and lifelong friends. Her love language was gift-giving, and she had a special way of making others feel celebrated and cared for. Melissa was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or making a financial contribution to the Canadian Blood Services in Melissa’s honour.
