He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Cornelius Penner and Mary Penner; his wife Victoria; his children, Brendon (Christy) and Carrie; his grandchildren, Madeleine, Josephine and Bennett; his stepchildren, Jordan (Renata) and Charlie (Jessica); his grandchild Charlie; and his siblings, Catherine (Rob), Douglas (Renee) and Edward (Judy). He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.

“My dear Victoria: It is great sadness and most sincere condolences to you and all your family in the passing of Richard. I was so shocked to hear this at mass this morning. You and Richard have always been a very special couple and wonderful friends to me over the years. Words can't begin to describe how dearly he will be missed. Richard was one on a million with a huge heart, compassionate nature and loving soul. A true light in each life that he touched and will be greatly missed.”
