GOLDEN, CECIL WALLACE – of Welland, peacefully at his residence on Thursday, May 18, 2017, in his 91st year. Cherished husband, for 69 years to Edna (nee Wells). Beloved father of Betty Belzner, Terry Shirkie (Bernie), Gary Golden, Sandra Golden, Grace Spence and Gail Mackay (Ross). Loved grandfather of Rachel, John, Ryan, Matthew and Amy Belzner; Ginny, Craig and Jeffrey Golden; Ashely Nyberg; Stephanie, Christopher, James, Thomas and Jacob Golden; Darrell Golden, Lena Broughton, Amanda Ventresca (Marco), Eric Spence (Marie), Justin Spence (Etsko) and Curtis, Phillip and Daniel Mackay.
Loving great-grandfather of Brayden Golden, Andrew Golden, Chase Spence, Jordan Broughton, Daniel and Lucas Ventresca and Olivia Spence. Also survived by sisters Marion Wright (Dan) and Grace Mathieu and Audrey Shepherd, brother Robert Golden (Marilyn), daughter-in-law Lois Golden. Predeceased by parents Isaac and Elizabeth Golden.
Sons David and Teddy Golden, daughter Karen Golden, sons-in-law Eric Spence and John Belzner, grandson-in-law Tom Nyberg, brothers Roy, Lloyd, Art and Wesley Golden and sisters Vera Gough, Dorothy Waino and Elsie Severy. Born in St. Catharines, Mr. Golden served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1955-1970 in Trenton, Rivers Manitoba and Uplands Ottawa, where he was a firefighter with the rank of Corporal.
He also worked for Fox Moving and as well as a lawn keeper for various golf clubs as part time jobs to feed his nine children while his wife of 69 years worked at home. When he returned to Welland in 1970 he worked several years at Union Carbide, retiring at age 58. He was a good husband and a beloved father and an adoring grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.
Friends are invited to visit at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland, on Tuesday, May 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and where the funeral service will be held in the Cudney Chapel on Wednesday May 24th at 11:00 a.m. If desired, donations to the Gideon Bibles would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
