He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Smajla and Marija Smajla. He is survived by: his wife Marija Smajla (Novosel); his children, Margaret (Robert) and John; his grandsons, Dominic and Michael; his sibling Darko (Renata) of Croatia; his nephews, Mario and Ivan Smajla; and his aunts, Anna Stefan (Slavo), Barka Kapitan (Joe) and Slavica Bartolac (Ivo).
