He was predeceased by: his parents, John Mottola and Eileen Mottola (DiCiocco); his niece Lisa Mottola; his brothers-in-law, Alex Zarafonitis, John Morris and Mel Moore; and his nephew Nick Zarafonitis.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra (Moore); his daughters, Cheryl, Deby of Welland and Louise (Stacey) of Airdrie Alberta; his grandchildren, Chris Mottola of Welland, Jon and Marina Colley of Alberta; his brother Louis; and his siblings-in-law, Joan Mottola of Stratford, ON, Carol Morris, Eileen Zarafonitis, Cathy Moore and Mike Moore (Nancy). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of John may be made to St. Mary Roman Catholic Church or a charity of one's choice..
