He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Gater and Phyliss Gater; and his sister Dianne Scott. He is survived by: his wife Colombe; his children, Dan Gater (Theresa) and Debbi Tennant (Brandon); his grandchildren, James (Alyssa), Grace (Codey), Merissa (Carlos) and Jessica (Kyle); his great grandchild Theresa; and his granddaughter Olympic. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
