He was predeceased by : his wife Lena. He is survived by : his children, Graeme (Kristen) of Grand Cayman and Ian; his grandchildren, Tyler and Marley; his siblings, Ian Thomson of Nova Scotia and Betty Laing of Scotland; his nieces, Christine Agnes Kathleen Thomson of Nova Scotia and Morna Allison Auld (John) of Scotland; and his nephew Donald Gordon Laing of Scotland.

Elaine Jackson wrote a sympathy message

“I will remember Ron as a fellow board member at Wellington on the Lake and as a conscious and issue-raiser with me on many occasions. I loved the way he would just appear on my front porch, settle into an easy chair in my den/computer room and proceed to interrogate me on whatever matter was currently bothering him. He was a true friend in that and many other ways. Ron, I will miss you! Elaine Jackson”
