She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Reta and Mary Reta; and her siblings, Vince (late Marg) and Lucille (late Joe). She is survived by: her sisters, Marg (late Harvey), Jean (Harold) and Joan (Steve); her husband Dieter; her children, Jennifer (Ed) and Kurt (Julie); and her grandchildren, Zoe and Benjamin. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made to Rose of Durham, an organization that Barbara volunteered at for many years, or SickKids Foundation, where the proceeds of her book went.
