Donald McLachlan Obituary

After a lifetime of stories, laughter, and conversations that rarely needed an invitation, Donald Bruce McLachlan — known to most as Mac — has, at last, taken a well-earned break on May 2, 2026, in Whitby, Ontario, at the age of 74.

Born and raised in Scarborough, Mac built a life defined by connection, humor, and a drive to do things his own way. He went on to start a successful business supplying automotive lighting to General Motors; a venture that reflected both his work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

But Mac's real legacy wasn't just in business — it was in the moments. Whether on the field or at the rink, he was always in the game. As a proud Slo-Pitch competitor in the USPL, and Trakel, he famously tallied 499 home runs at Crosby during his illustrious career. In true playmaker fashion, one season on the ice he recorded 1 goal and 99 assists — he always seemed to enjoy the setup as much as the spotlight.

He was a devoted fan of Michigan Football and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and rarely missed a chance to talk about either — whether you were ready for the conversation or not. Some of his favourite memories were made on motorhome trips to Michigan and Notre Dame football games, traveling with the Bowens and a close circle of friends — tailgating, laughing, and sharing stories that only got better with time.

Mac was many things: funny, endlessly friendly, and one of the great storytellers. His humor was quick, his presence larger than life, and his voice and presence will echo in the memories of everyone who knew him. Above all, he loved to laugh and to make others laugh, especially surrounded by friends and family.

Mac was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cindy. He leaves behind his sons Ryan (Jenny) and Chris, and his cherished grandchildren Mason and Max. His family was his pride, and his time with them was what mattered most.

Mac will be remembered for the way he brought people together, filled rooms with laughter, and turned everyday moments into stories worth telling.

A celebration of life will be announced shortly — and no doubt, the stories will go on longer than the event itself.
