He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence O'Leary and Gertrude O'Leary (Humpert); and his siblings, Patrick, Michael, Marcella McPhee, Mary Ann Mullen and Joanne Heffernan.

He is survived by: his wife Jill (Clarke); his children, John Jr. (Donna), William "Bill" (Sue), Thomas "Tom" (Lisa) and Meghan Mitchell (Ian); his grandchildren, Brandon O'Leary (Lauren), Tamara Diamantakos (Evan), Mitchell O'Leary, Matthew O'Leary, Madeline Mitchell and Evan Mitchell; his great grandchildren, Mason O'Leary and Mara O'Leary; his siblings, Clarence "Bud" (Pola), Robert (Linda), Patrice O'Leary, Agnes Zwarka and Gertrude O'Leary (Linda); his sister-in-law Joyce Kuran; and his former wife Ann O'Leary. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
