“I had the honour to stand along side Derek "Slick" while serving with 3RCR. He was a class act that always had a kind word and praise for everyone. I had the chance to reconnect with him a few yrs back at an ethnic restaurant near York University. We were just going to meet for a quick meal and say hello. The meal lasted 7 hr and the restaurant closed 2.5 hr earlier and we were still chatting. Owner of the restaurant just sat at the bar doing his paperwork and let 2 old soldiers to catch up. RIP”
