He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Clement Smelko and Serafina (Columbus); his brothers, Joe (Fran) and Gus (Barb); his sisters-in-law, Barb (Gus) and Trudy (Albert); and also Slovakia.

He is survived by : his wife Elizabeth Harris; his stepsons, Gary and Bob; his brother Albert (Trudy); his sister-in-law Fran (Joe); and his cousin Slovakia. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
