He was predeceased by: his parents, Seymore and Hilda; and his siblings, Martin of Leslie and Velma. He is survived by: his spouse Ruth Birt; his children, Lillian Gould (Walter), Brenda Birt, Ann MacMillan (Barry), Ricky, Russell (Patricia), Janet White (Barry) and Rose Arsenault (John); his grandchildren, Shawn, Rachael, Priscilla, Nicole, Tara, Kyle, Courtney, Samantha, Shawna, Amanda and Mark; and his siblings, Lorne Birt (Roma), Myrna Peters (Edward) and Marlene Pater. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association.
