He was predeceased by: his child Peter Ruthann; his sibling Aubrey; and his parents, George H. Brookins and Nellie Brookins (McCoubrey). He is survived by: his children, Gordon (Maureen), George H. (Rachel) and Alicia Madore; his great grandchildren, Mia Marie and Anne Marie; his siblings, Ella Roberts (late Bruce) and Elizabeth Waugh (late Wilfred); and his pets, Ginger, Chivas and Max. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
